Figure 1 shows action potential records taken from a single left ventricular myocyte under our standard experimental conditions used for the action potential measurements in the absence (black) and presence (red) of sotalol (100 鮠Application of the class III antiarrhythmic sotalol (100 頣aused a significant prolongation of the action potential.

Figure 1 shows mean data (from 8 cells) for the effect of sotalol on action potential duration.  The significant prolongation of cardiac repolarisation would be expected to result in QT prolongation in the intact heart and increase the risk of arrhythmia. Sotalol-induced prolongation of the action potential is due in part to sotalol-induced block of IKr.
